Introduction
Watsonville Community Hospital Laboratory is a modern facility offering state-of-the-art equipment and instrumentation. Our laboratory is committed to providing accurate and timely results to aid physicians in disease diagnosis and treatment.
WCH laboratory is centered around a staff of licensed clinical laboratory scientists and certified laboratory technicians. These individuals provide the level of quality, customer care and attention to detail that all of our patients and physicians expect.
Quality
Our laboratory is fully accredited through The Joint Commission,
licensed through the California Department of Health Services and CLIA, and complies with all local, state and federal guidelines.
WCH laboratory utilizes the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB) for proficiency testing and adheres to strict quality control guidelines to ensure accurate and precise results.
Service
Tests are performed in the following disciplines:
- Hematology - the study of blood, the flood-forming organs, and blood diseases.
- Chemistry - includes testing of therapeutic drugs, toxicology, tumor markers and cardiac markers.
- Urinalysis - includes an assortment of tests for various components of urine.
- Coagulation - the study of hemostasis (the arrest of bleeding) and various diseases.
- Immunology/Serology - the identification of immunological disorders including antibodies.
- Microbiology - the identification of microorganisms and determination of antibiotic resistance and susceptibility.
- Transfusion Service - determines blood type/Rh and any unexpected antibodies and provides appropriate blood components for transfusion.
Some esoteric tests are not performed at Watsonville Community Hospital Laboratory. These are referred to our contracted reference lab.
Pathology/Histology services are referred to a contracted reference lab.
Inpatient lab services are continuously available 24-hours a day.
Outpatient lab services are available Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Personnel
Our laboratory staff consists of California-licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientists (CLS) and California-certified Laboratory Technicians (CPT). Additionally, a board-certified pathologist is available for consultations.
